Buddy system

Nobody should start health sciences on their own

We pair new students with senior students in the same department — for honest advice on lectures, placements and finding your way around campus.

Why join

What you get out of it

Find your feet faster

Timetables, lecture halls, placement paperwork, where to print, who to ask — the things nobody puts in the handbook.

Someone who's been there

Your buddy studies in your own department, so the advice is specific to your course, not generic student tips.

Build your circle early

Buddies introduce you to study groups, MHSA events and the wider faculty community from week one.

Give back as a senior

Being a buddy is rewarding, looks great on your CV, and takes as little as a coffee and a couple of messages a month.

How it works

Four simple steps

1

Tell us your course, year, and whether you want a buddy or want to be one.

2

We match you

The Education Officer pairs you with a student from your own department, a year or more ahead.

3

Meet up

You get an introduction by email, then meet on campus at a time that suits you both.

4

Stay in touch

Check in through the semester — especially before exams and first placements.

Whether you are starting out or happy to help someone who is, fill in the form and the Education Officer will be in touch with your match.

Your details stay with us

Sign-ups are only seen by MHSA committee and are used to make your match — your email is shared with your buddy once you are paired.
